Where NAVTEX cannot be feasibly established, what system can be implemented to provide an automated service in coastal waters to receive MSI?

SafetyNET (tm-trade mark) is a communication function of the Inmarsat-C radio two-way data store-and-forward messaging system.

(a). AMVER is the automated mutual-assistance vessel rescue systems, where reports are sent regarding sailing plans, position, deviation, and arrival reports. These are used whenever a search and rescue efforts have to be made, to coordinate response wherever distress occurs at sea.

(b). VHF DSC, a marine radio operating on the very high frequency range (30 to 300 MHz) , and includes digital selecting calling. It is used for distress communications. ARQ is a mode of telex messages in radio telegraphy that automatically requests a repeat of a message that was received with errors.

    Aural and/or visual alarms are activated and require manual deactivation.
  • No immediate action is required, as an audible tone will be generated at the beginning and end of the transmission and a paper printout of the message will be generated.
