K6NCX BIRTHDAY BASH - pre-Field Day Online VE Session 3 (We may do three. Or not.) GLAARG session ID 5219 (you don't have to know that, it's just to help us keep track)

PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH THIS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REGISTER. If this is too much reading, please find another testing session.

This testing session is part of my birthday celebration. I want it to be fun for everyone. Being unable to take (or administer) an exam because the tools won't work is NO FUN. Taking and not passing am exam (or having an examinee not pass an exam) is NO FUN. We don't like no fun. SO...

You must have and show valid government-issued ID. Exception: Those under 18 may have their identity confirmed by a parent or guardian who produces appropriate ID for themselves. For examinees under 13, we will have to have written consent from parent or guardian, please email k6ncx@arrl.net.

This session requires a computer (laptop or desktop) with webcam, with the current version of Zoom installed. Macs, Windows, and various flavors of Linux are fine. Thus far, Chromebooks have NOT worked. There are settings in Zoom which can prevent some of these working, so I suggest that you try out ahead of time everything we are going have you do, using the computer you place to use for testing (plus another - which can be on the same table or in a different country.) Use of headsets or additional monitors is not permitted during the test. For your web browser, Chrome definitely works. Safari has not worked in the past. Firefox and IE generally work. A fairly robust internet connection is also required.

This session also requires a room where you can be alone and undisturbed. Some people find that bathrooms work well, but probably not if there are other people in the house and that's the only bathroom. We have also found that sometimes streaming activity by others in the house during testing can be a problem.

Before testing, we will have you show us your ID, then show us your entire working space. We will need to see clearly, including all walls, ceiling, floor, and work surface. A second device is not required (and therefor not permitted) UNLESS needed for clearly showing ID and/or surroundings. There must not be anything in view or audible that may be mistaken for aid in passing the exam.

After we see your testing environment and your ID, we will have you share your screen (whole desktop) with us in Zoom. We will check for extraneous applications running.

The VE Team may terminate the session and invalidate test results if we see or hear anything that even appears to be an attempt by the examinee to obtain aid in answering the test questions, or an attempt by anyone to give aid to the examinee.

Test fees will be paid by K6NCX (in other words FREE TO YOU) for residents of ALAMEDA COUNTY, California, and for those born, like me, on JUNE 23. If this applies to you, email me at k6ncx@arrl.net immediately after registering. (Or, if session is full, email me and maybe I can get you in.)

PayPal invoice will be sent within 24 hours of registration. Please be SURE you give us a working email address. Otherwise, you will not get the invoice and you will not take the test. If you do not receive the invoice, please email k6ncx@arrl.net.

You are welcome to take any - or all - exam elements for which you are well prepared. If you have taken five or more practice exams (for each element you plan to take) and consistently score 85% or higher, I'd say you're well prepared. Otherwise, not so much
