General class and exam

Join us in-person for a free one-day General cram class followed by a ham radio exam. For more information or to register, please use the email at the bottom of the page. The location in this listing is nearby, but not the actual location. No Walk-ins. You will be given the location of the exam after you have registered.

SANDARC's Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC) offers free in-person and online testing for all FCC Amateur Radio licenses.

SANDARC does not charge for first time license exam, re-test nor license upgrade.

Our Volunteer Examiners are mostly San Diego hams who dedicate their time and expertise to ensure that the testing process fully complies with FCC regulations and procedures.

Although the class and exam are provided at no charge, the FCC started charging $35 per new license application on April 19th, 2022. Upgrades to an existing license is free, but if you are planning on taking tech and general you will need to pay the FCC online.
