Hello!
Testing will be at South Whatcom Fire Station 21 (4518 Cable Street) in the meeting room just as you enter the building.
Registration and obtaining of your Federal Registration Number (FRN), are completed via the Ham Study website (http://ham.study/sessions ).
If you have some kind of special needs, let me know and I will do everything I can to accommodate.
A calculator is handy for General and Amateur Extra exams.
The test fee is $15 for initial processing. If you are under the age of 17, the cost is only $5. Please bring cash – exact change if possible. If writing a check, as of November 1, 2025, the ARRL is no longer accepting mailed documents/payments. Please fill out the check to me (David Holland) and I will electronically (via CC) pay the fees. I will also accept PayPal and/or Venmo payments on test day.
If you are upgrading your license, please bring an official copy. Please bring a government issued Photo ID as well (examples are in the link below).
For more helpful pre and posttest information, please check out this link: https://www.arrl.org/what-to-bring-to-an-exam-session
Upon successfully passing an exam, we will forward your information to the ARRL VEC which will processes your application and forward it to the FCC so that you may receive your license or license upgrade. Since this is being done electronically, it usually can take around 2- 3 business days for this to occur.
If you do not already have an active amateur radio license the FCC requires a $35.00 fee for new licenses. You must pay the FCC’s fee within 10 days of them contacting you by email for you to receive your license.
For applicants aged 17 and younger the ARRL will reimburse this $35.00 fee. To request youth reimbursements through the ARRL fill out and submit the application linked below.
See you on test day!!
