When placing a SSB MF/HF call to a Coast Station, you should always:

(A). When placing a SSB MF/HF call to a Coast Station, you should always make sure the frequency is not occupied.

For any radio communication, the proper practice is to ALWAYS listen on the frequency before transmitting. That practice helps to avoid disturbing ongoing communications.

Most license frequencies are monitored by paid or volunteers and a broadcasting transmitter can be very easily found by a triangulation method.
