The block diagram of a typical RADAR system microprocessor is shown in Fig. 8A2. Choose the most correct statement regarding this system.

  • The ALU is used for address decoding.
  • Correct Answer
The Memory and I/O communicate with peripherals.
  • The control unit executes arithmetic manipulations.
  • The internal bus is used simultaneously by all units.

The Internal Bus does not communicate with external periferal devices or it would cease to be an Internal Bus.

The only other arrow leaving the block diagram to connect with the outside world is the Memory and I/O Bus, so that's the Bus that connects with (external) periperals and Answer B. is the right answer. Also I/O stands for Input/Output.

Answer A. is wrong because the ALU - Arithmetic Logic Unit handles arithmetic and not connections to periperals.

Answer C. is wrong because the Control Unit synchronizes the functioning of the microprocessor's components but doesn't handle communications.

Answer D. is wrong because a bus, whether internal or external, can't handle communications between more than 2 units (the sender and the receiver) at the same time.

The phantastron circuit is capable of:

  • Stabilizing the magnetron.
  • Preventing saturation of the RADAR receiver.
  • Being used to control repeller voltage in the AFC system.
  • Correct Answer
Developing a linear ramp voltage when triggered by an external source.

The block diagram of a typical RADAR system microprocessor is shown in Fig. 8A2. Choose the most correct statement regarding this system.

  • Correct Answer
    The ALU executes arithmetic manipulations.
  • The ALU is used for address decoding.
  • General registers are used for arithmetic manipulations.
  • Address pointers are contained in the control unit.

Answer A. is the right answer because the ALU - Arithmetic Logic Unit handles arithmetic and not connections to periperals.

Answer B. is wrong because the ALU - Arithmetic Logic Unit handles arithmetic and does dereference memory addresses.

Answer C. is wrong because General Registers don't handle arithmetic.

Answer D. is wrong because the Control Unit synchronizes the tasks of the microprocessors different components.

In the Line-Driver/Coax/Line-receiver circuit shown in Fig. 8A3, what component is represented by the blank box marked "X"?

  • 25-ohm resistor.
  • Correct Answer
    51-ohm resistor.
  • 10-microhm inductor.
  • 20-microhm inductor.

A purely resistive load equal to the transmission line's impedance is required to terminate all transmission lines in order to keep power from being reflected back to the sender and either heat and destroy the active component in a transmitter or smudge in the time domain the signal received by the receiver, or by a an IC - Integrated Circuit on a PCB - Printed-Circuit Board.

Answer B. is thus the right answer.

Choose the most correct statement:

  • The magnetron anode is a low voltage circuit.
  • The anode of the magnetron carries high voltage.
  • Correct Answer
The filament of the magnetron carries dangerous voltages.
  • The magnetron filament is a low voltage circuit.

For safet reasons the anode of a Magnetron is grounded thus the cathode and filament carry a very high voltage and Answer C. is the right answer.
